Shopping for a wig can be challenging, especially if you’re new to the process and the product itself. Whether you’re purchasing a wig out of necessity or for fashion, the experience can be stressful.

Full cap Wigs are ideal for someone

  • Lost their hair to medical treatments
  • Alopecia
  • Gender Affirming
  • Fashion

Here are some tips to help you find the perfect wig.

Approach Wig Shopping Like Any Other Purchase:  When buying a wig, think of it as shopping for any other item, like a dress, a car, or a phone. You want the right colour, style, fit, and price.

Brace Yourself for Price Variations:  Wigs come in a wide range of prices, largely dependent on the type of hair used and the manufacturing process. Here are the basics you need to know:

  • Synthetic Hair: The least expensive option.
  • Processed Human Hair:Natural hair that has been bleached and dyed. Light colours can sometimes look unnatural.
  • Virgin European Hair: The most natural-looking but also the most expensive.

Focus on Results:  Your wig needs to meet three key criteria:

  1. It Must Look Good: Despite common perceptions, many wigs can look fantastic, whether they are made of synthetic or human hair. Try on different wigs and visualize how they can be styled. Remember, most wigs will need some styling to look their best.
  2. It Must Fit Comfortably: Check the Cap; the inside of the wig cap should be free of scratchy materials.
  • Movement Test: Move your head side to side and look up at the ceiling. The wig should stay in place without causing discomfort.
  • potential Irritation: Examine the inside of the cap for anything that might cause irritation. This can be challenging if you still have hair when trying on wigs, but you can usually get a good sense of fit.
  1. It Must Be Secure: Remember, a wig is essentially a hat with hair, so it has its limitations.
  • Wind Resistance: It should stay on in a regular gust of wind but might not hold up if you’re diving off a three-meter board.
  • Wig Cap or Headband: If you still have some hair, the wig might slide. A wig cap or special headband can provide extra security.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can find a wig that looks great, fits well, and stays secure, making your shopping experience much less stressful.
