We are so proud of our Amanda. 9 years cancer free now she is baring it all for great cause. Here’s an excerpt from her blog. To read the full story visit her blog http://baldbraveandbeautiful.wordpress.com/
“As I mentally prepared myself for the big day I thought back to when I was forced to shave my head after the second chemo treatment caused my hair to fall out like crazy. My eyes stung with tears, my lower lip quivered as I looked in the mirror at the unfamiliar head and face staring back at me “I look like Trevor (my brother)” as the tears streamed down my face. Now, this reaction surprised me! I hated my hair…thin, fine, curly…but, regardless I was sad to see it go. As a female, (and young one at that) your hair is very much part of your identity.”
What a great success the show was! So many people were excited to see that healthy hair starts from a healthy scalp. Can’t wait to be back next year.
We are proud to announce that all of our Capilia Ontario Centres have agreed to embark on a yearlong campaign for Rethink Breast Cancer starting September 2013 and ending Oct. 31, 2014.
Rethink Breast Cancer is a charity that reaches out to young women affected by breast cancer and addresses the unique needs of young women through treatment. Rethink Breast Cancer is the first Canadian charity to bring bold, relevant awareness to the women under 40.
This year, an estimated 24,000 women in Canada will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer and of those 4,000 will be young women. That means every 1 out of 6 women diagnosed with Breast Cancer will be under the age of 40.
Our Capilia Ontario Hair Loss Solution Centres through the fundraising initiative with Locks of Courage, will help fund the Family Support program. This program provides resources, home visits, home care and anything else a young family will need during cancer treatments.
Our wonderful Ontario partners that are part of the Locks of Courage campaign are…
Our goal is for each centre to sell 1000 pink locks of courage highlights within the 13 months. Which means approximately $50,000.00 will go to Rethink Breast Cancer for their Family Support program.
On Saturday September 14, we will be kicking off the Locks of Courage Champaign at Capilia Truly You Hair Loss Solution Centre at 14 Henry Street from 11-2. We will have refreshments and information about Rethink Breast Cancer. Come out and help us celebrate start our fundraiser.

A sincere thank you for joining us on Sunday November 25th, 2012, in a fun afternoon in support of Angel Hair For Kids, a program of A Child’s Voice Foundation. Capilia Truly You is proud to direct the Angel Hair for Kids program. For more information on our next Angel Hair for Kids event, contact us!
Angel Hair for Kids™ is a program of A Child’s Voice Foundation™ that provides wigs and hair loss solutions to financially disadvantaged children in Canada who have lost their hair due to medical conditions or treatment. Using hair that is generously donated to the program, the foundation can create wigs and hair systems and provide them at no cost to the child’s family. It takes 10-12 donated ponytails to make one hair prosthesis and $800 to $1000 is budgeted by the foundation to cover manufacturing and related costs.
Every year many children in Canada lose their hair due to conditions such as cancer treatments, alopecia and even burns. We believe that providing a wig or hair loss solution will increase a child’s self esteem and improve their self image, during a difficult and sometimes painful time in their lives. We hope to help them face their condition and daily life with a greater confidence.
This special program is the only one of its kind in Canada that is Canadian.
Every Angel Hair for Kids recipient is given a personal appointment at a salon that specializes in wigs and hair loss. These salons have been pre selected by the foundation due to their experience, ability and desire to work with children in need and volunteer their time to the kids and the foundation. With care and compassion the experts walk the child and their family through the process of selecting a wig or hair loss solution that meets their needs. Once selected, the hair prosthesis is fitted and styled especially for that child, making it their very own. In addition, the child will receive a kit that includes a wig stand, shampoo, hair brush and care instructions. If a child is too ill to come in to the salon Angel Hair for Kids will arrange for a salon professional to come to them.
