Caring For Your Wig
Congratulations on the purchase of your new hair!
Like anything new, a wig takes getting used to. Give your wig a fair trial, and it will become as familiar as your own hair. To help you get along with your wig and make the breaking-in process as pleasant as possible, we’ve included some do’s and don’ts that will help you and your wig get along just fine.
For best results, wigs are best restyled and re-conditioned by your hair alternative specialist. Reconditioning should take place approximately every 6 weeks. Generally a wig should be washed every two weeks. Factors such as air quality and humidity will contribute to frequency of washing, as it does with your own hair.
Should you choose to wash your wig yourself it should be treated as follows:
- First make sure you have the wig care kit. You will require shampoo and conditioner that it formulated for the type of fiber your wig is made of.
- Before washing, brush straight styles gently with a wire brush. For curly styles lightly pick at the fiber, keeping the curls intact. This will help remove any built up of hairspray or gels.
- Add a cap of wig shampoo in a basin of luke warm water (Never use hot water). Immerse wig, dousing it gently and allow to soak for ten minutes. Rinse completely by swishing in clean cool water. Gently squeeze excess water from the wig. For high luster and softness, apply spray leaving in conditioner.
- For Human Hair wigs, use ph balance shampoo rich in moisture for colour treated hair and reconstructive conditioner.
- For curly styles, lightly finger squeeze curls while wig is still wet to give it definition.
- For straight styles, gently brush the wig starting from the ends and moving up to the rooted area.
- Now style to your preference and let it air dry on a wire stand. Never use a styro-foam head.
- For human hair wigs, let it dry to damp and then style with blow dryer.
- Daily minor styling changes can be achieved by using a non alcohol mousse, gel or spray. Use only wig product or quality salon products recommended by your hair alternative specialist. This styling can be rejuvenated by adding a light mist of water between mousse, gel or spray.
- To protect your wig from unnecessary wear and tear, place a satin slip cover over the pillow you are resting on. This will help eliminate the possibility of the fiber becoming frizzed.
PLEASE NOTE: All synthetic fibers are heat sensitive. Any heat over 300 degree will synch the fiber. Do not try to fix the damaged area, please let your hair alternative specialist repair it.
Do not use on Synthetic or Blends any heat temperature of over 300 degrees such as
- Any hot elements such as blow dryers or curling irons and straightner
- Ovens and BBQ and dishwashers
- Sitting near a fireplace or under a hot lamp
For best results, wigs are best restyled and reconditioned occasionally by your wig technician. |
